The Mississippi River Open School partnered with the River Semester, a unique educational experience where students travel by catamarans down the Mississippi River for 100 days, camping and living along the river's banks for that entire time. Programming for some of this year's River Semester was provided by people and partners working in collaboration with the Open School and its themes.

From August 28 - December 8, 2023 the River Semester travelled downstream with stops at river hubs along the way. Students posted about their journey to the interactive map and blog. (The content is still being revised and refined.)
